Ricadi Italy

Ricadi is a municipality in the province of Vibo Valentia, in Calabria (Italy). Ricadi was populated from remote times: already in the prehistoric and pre-Christian period. Witnesses are the archaeological remains found, preserved in the national museum of Reggio Calabria. Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Saracens, Normans have left a sign in the territory, building road and defensive infrastructures (watchtowers) and influencing customs, language (dialect) and place names. Ricadi and the neighboring towns depended on Tropea until 1799, the year in which independence was recognized by a French general, Championnet, who gave a new administrative disposition to the cantons of Tropea. Ricadi was a municipality of the Monteleone district (today's Vibo Valentia), of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, by a decree of 1811.
